Where Am I Wearing?
Let your mind wonder
My All-American Cambodian Blue Jeans
In the USA we didn’t invent the blue jean. We just made ‘em cool.
Jeans were first worn by the Italian Navy. But riveted jeans were first produced... [Read this entry]
What do making Jeans and Bowling have in common?
These workers would rather not do either.
I took them bowling. Nails were broken. Heavy balls were heaved. And sore arms were rubbed. It didn’t take.
My... [Read this entry]
Notes From a Garment Factory
The following are excerpts from my notes from my visit to Roo Hsing Garment Factory:-
“My boss says that he would like to dry your pants.”
“Sure, that’d be great.”
If Willy Wonka made blue jeans…
…his factory would be about the same sizes as the Roo Hsing Garment Factory in Phnom Penh.
As I approach the mirrored-glass doors all I can see is my reflection.... [Read this entry]
Black Market Blue Jeans
The Russian Market is truly a SWEAT shop - all of the shoppers are dripping in sweat. But it would take a lot more than a little heat to... [Read this entry]
Granny was a Garment Worker
Levis continues to rock. In the very near future I will be touring one of the factories that produce their jeans. Is it weird that I’m excited to... [Read this entry]

Made in Bangladesh: My Underwear
I came. I saw. I found my underwear…kind of.
The address I had for my underwear was not actually a factory, but a buying house. In Bangladesh... [Read this entry]

The Attack of the Granny Panties
The Quote of the week: “So, I hear you are interested in women’s panties.”
Said by Salehin, an owner of a buying house, after an obvious mistranslation in the phone... [Read this entry]
I was made in America. My “Jingle These” Christmas boxers were MADE IN BANGLADESH.I had an all-American childhood in rural Ohio. My all-American blue jeans were MADE IN CAMBODIA.
I wore flip-flops every day for a year when I worked as a SCUBA diving instructor in Key West. They were MADE IN CHINA.
One day while staring at a pile of clothes on the floor, I noticed the tag of my favorite T-shirt: MADE IN HONDURAS.
I read the tag. My mind wandered.
A quest was born. A book was written.
